Instructional Strategies in the Classroom
There are many research-based instructional strategies that can be used in the classroom. So, what are some that we will use and how will students be involved in the learning process? Read below!
Cooperative Learning:
Students will work in varied groups on skills across subject areas. These groups may focus on students who are working on at the same level on similar skills or students working at varied levels on one concepts so that they can contribute their specific strengths to the group assignment. |
Inquiry-Based Instruction:
Students will be encouraged to think deeply about concepts and develop their own questions about what they are learning. This strategy strongly comes into play in math and science but is also applied to all content areas! |
Technology in the Classroom:
Technology actively engages students in classroom instruction and brings something they are quite familiar with into the learning process. This tool also allows students to connect with the classroom and practice skills independently such as when other classmates are in small group instruction. |
Student Movement:
During the application of this strategy, students will take part in movement activities and hands-on instruction with games and activities such as 4 corners, Would You Rather, the use of manipulatives, and Write-the-Room activities. Students will also have the chance to use the alternative seating present in our classroom to keep bodies moving even when sitting is required. |
Small Group Instruction:
Small group instruction will allow me to meet with students at similar levels of learning in math and reading so that we, as a group, can focus on specific skills. The small group environment will allow the students in the group close interaction with the teacher along with the chance to share ideas and thoughts in a less intimidating environment. |
Project-Based Learning and STEM:
This instructional strategy aims to combine multiple concept areas into projects that mimic real-life situations, Students will use problem-solving skills, higher-order thinking, and questioning/inferring strategies to solve create objects that would solve a problem or possibly enhance their lives! |
